The Prize doubles as both an exceptionally interesting story and a new excellent reference thanks to be able to a comprehensive index. My only complaint is usually that the regional maps are generally sub-par and often don't indicate half the points of interest mentioned inside the text message. This is merely an annoyance though and won't detract much from the experience.
I don't have much else to put. The Prize is written for the layman, thus anyone with even a new passing desire for the industry ought to check that out. I'm nearly all of the way through the sequel The Quest, which addresses the next twenty years or so of history though in pretty a diverse manner and with typically poorer writing in the opinion. The Prize is a must buy!, This is the definitive book on the "Age of Oil" and its journey from fruition to modern day. Amazingly well researched and insightful. The Prize describes exactly how this once seemingly useless substance served as a new platform for building international economies and increasing human being productivity. """, When you want to realize oil's history and history, and why it continues to be a dominant feature of humans' existence for the last 100 years, this is the book for you. Together with oil's story, an individual will learn the exactly how and why driver of several of the historical events in the last 100 many years.
Given this book's scholarship or grant, the writing is clear and will likely hold your interest as an individual become educated about the dominant player inside the all-pervasive Energy Industry., This really is basically a history of the application of oil from its earliest mass production days in the mid 1800's upward to today. This may be a new dry topic but will be written mainly being a sequence of narratives about the characters in the research of, production of, and control of the source. The character driven strategy makes this a amazingly easy read for a new fairly long book.
It focuses on the effects of olive oil on the economies of the two consuming and producing nations around the world at the same time how access to be able to oil influences the personal power of nations. That makes clear how this particular access to the energy source affected all nations around the world and was obviously a huge motorist in transforming the international economy.
Extremely recommended., One of the five. Well written and researched, truth be told it will be very entertaining to study. It will give you a new value for this civilization transforming resource. We being a society take Oil totally for granted, our way of life relies after that. Would you rather live in 1817 or 2017, think about it. There will be a component of olive oil in everything that surrounds us. You can't make iphones, electric cars, photo voltaic panels and wind generators without having it. It makes no sense to export a new valuable finite resource, and it makes a lot of sense to use our enemy's supply first. We all want to learn some history to gain a proper perspective., This is the third copy of this publication that I have purchased. Typically the first two are on my shelf, and the third I gave away in a white elephant gift idea exchange.
I originally discovered this book through an Energy Economics course I was taking at my basic at Michigan Technological University. The course was obviously a hybrid undergraduate/graduate course, and something of the differentiators was that the graduate students got to read The Prize and write a paper on it.
This book will be a must-read for any person who wants to understand the oil industry, the history, its geopolitics, and how oil has shaped policy and war for the past 100+ many years.
