There is a 21 minute YouTube video of the author being interviewed by Oprah Winfrey. I do not enjoy viewing Oprah, yet that did not detract from the video in any way for me. I highly recommend it! (There are shorter extracts of it - make sure to watch the 21 minute version from her Super Soul Sunday program. ) Thich Nhat Hanh is truly one of a kind, and in his mid-80s, is a soon-to-be-lost world treasure. I wish I would learned about him decades ago. (My wife could not be any more positive either - so this deserves a double 5-star rating, since we purchased two copies. ), I was in my local library buying a guide to manage stress that was not " wordy". I picked this one up, (still have it at home), and immediately ordered my own copy. I knew I would be referring to it for the rest of my life. If you are like me, as I start each chapter my thoughts goes " Yeah, but... " and by the time I am finished it is clear. Typically the breathing techniques this monk describes are basic and make sense. I use them everyday now and try to be in the second. If you have a horrible childhood that results you to this time, maybe this will be of some help. It sets things in perspective and provides ways to look at life I had disregarded. AND helps me clear my brain when trying to get to sleep... worth every penny., Thich Nhat Hanh books are wonderful to read when you need to be reminded the value of realizing
all the goodness that is ready for each one of us all each time we experience awareness.
If you need to learn to slow down and make your sense of appreciation, dr. murphy is the author for you., An excellent introductory guide on the practice of mindfulness. Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh writes in a way that is produced from Buddhist roots, but accessible to people of most backgrounds and religions, in particular those with no exposure to Yoga. This book does not go into lofty philosophy or delve deep into Yoga at all, but much more a practical guide for peace and calmness in daily life. In the conclusion are appendices with useful exercises. Definitely a great read for beginners, but also an amazing refresher for experienced practitioners. However, reading is not enough - one must put the advice into daily healthy actions of body, talk, and mind., The wonderful book is recommended by Yoga teachers. Awesome!, I have learned so much from Thich Nhat Hahn's theories, and have been enjoying this guide very much. He has a way of relating so well to the way our lives are, while offering meditations that are simple and effective that we can make full use of to help us. Also ways we can incorporate them into our busy lives, and add quality to daily by doing so., Thich Nhat Hanh points his readers towards daily a harmonious relationship through the basic application of inclusive fundamental procedures Reciting gathas and regular 're focusing on the breath will enhance coping skills of those willing to do the expression needed to empower themselves
Keep lO..?, I acquired this book as recommended by a friend who also needs to practice mindfullness. I enjoy the straightforward yet well thought out lessons and excercises. I have already read " The Monks and Me" which is an awsome book written by Mary Paterson journalizing the girl stay at Plum Town, France, Hanh's Buddhist Monestary. Her book helps you see how Thich Nhat Hanh's lessons can be used on real life situations. I recommend both books highly. These and other tools I hope can help me slow down, be less stressed and return to the joy of the second... every breath.
